Everything you need to know in order to use our IT tools and products effectively
Google Workspace
From the life skills we teach members during their time in the Australian Air League, to the training we provide our officers to better support our mission of Training Tomorrow's Pilots, Musicians, Leaders, and Aviators, we’re all about giving our community the best chance at succeeding at what they do.
At an organisational level, this commitment extends to making the behind-the-scenes running of Moorebank smarter, stronger, and more sustainable so we can have an even greater impact on the young people we support.
This is where Google Workspace (formerly Google G Suite) comes in.
In 2021, Moorebank Squadron began our roll out of Google Workspace to all Officers, Adult Members, and Senior NCOs. This gave us a secure and central way of communicating with and supporting our members to access the Australian Air League from anywhere, on any device. This roll out included the issuing of a Moorebank Squadron email address to all Officers, Adult Members, and Senior NCOs as well as free access to a suite of Google Workspace online tools and applications to support the day-to-day business and operations of the squadron.
What is Google Workspace?
Google Workspace (formerly Google G Suite) is an online-based suite of tools offered by Google to help improve productivity, collaboration, and secure file and document sharing and management across the organisation. Because it is cloud-based (online), Australian Air League members can access their Moorebank Squadron email account and other Google Workspace tools on any device, at any time, from any location simply via a web browser such as Google Chrome and Internet Explorer (Edge).
Read on below to see a set of common and frequently asked questions regarding your new Moorebank Squadron Google Workspace account.
We’ll use the initial of your first name in addition to your full last name. And, if two people share the same first and last name, we’ll add your next letter to your first initial to make sure there’s no confusion.
If your name was John Smith it would appear like:
j.smith@blackbirds.org.au
OR
jo.smith@blackbirds.org.au
In addition to your personal email address, you’ll also be added to a role-based mailbox based on your official appointment within the Australian Air League. This ensures that communications relating to that specific appointment remain secure and accessible regardless of who is in the role. It will also make it easier for you to see all the communications that are relevant to you.
When you activate your Moorebank Squadron email address, this will become the primary email address we use to communicate with you instead of your current email address (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, or other account).
When activating your Moorebank Squadron email account, you’ll be asked to provide your mobile number. The number is provided directly to Google and not to the Australian Air League. Google requires this number to help you recover your account if you forget your password. This is an essential security feature that helps protect your email account from unauthorised access.
Your mobile number will be used in accordance with Australian privacy laws.
We are rolling out Moorebank Squadron email addresses to all Officers, Adult Members, and Senior NCOS along with a version of Google Workspace, which is a completely cloud-based suite of tools that are totally online-based (not accessed via a desktop).
Because it is cloud-based (online), AAL members can access their Moorebank Squadron email account and other Google Workspace online tools on any device, at any time, from any location simply via a web browser such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer (Edge), etc.
When members activate their Moorebank Squadron email address, this will become the primary email address the Australian Air League uses to communicate with members instead of their current email address (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, or other account).
Please note: a non-AAL email address will still be required as a back-up address for password resets.
You may have already received an email informing you that you’ll be receiving a Moorebank Squadron email address and access to Google Workspace. We’ll keep you up to date re the status of the rollout via emails sent to your personal (non-AAL) email address, including an invitation to set up your new Moorebank Squadron email account along with instructions to do so. Please keep an eye on your usual email address for these emails.
Once you’ve set up your Moorebank Squadron email address, you’ll receive a number of automated emails in that Google Workspace inbox. These will include welcome emails that offer to walk you through the features of your new mailbox.
Depending on your appointment within the Australian Air League, you may also be part of a role-based mailbox. If that’s the case, you’ll also receive welcome emails for each of the additional mailboxes that you have.
When you activate your Moorebank Squadron email address, this will become the primary email address we use to communicate with you instead of your current email address (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, or other account).
The most important part of this rollout is your Moorebank Squadron email address, which you will access through online Gmail.
